Last week I worked on embedding an old map from the early 1900's into Google Earth, for my Google Lit Trip. The map is in the public domain (from Wikipedia) and shows the Peking/Beijing Legation Quarter from back in the day. This old map fit over top of modern day Beijing surprisingly well, with many of the major thoroughfares lining up. When I combined this with some details from the book and my memories of walking those same streets with my father in the early 90's, I think I have a very good idea of where the old house used to be. Pretty exciting for me, even though the house is long gone.
