The dome nearest the drive previously contained a 17-inch f/3.7 Schmidt camera. Ref: http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/about/history

05/04/24.  In 2009 this telescope was gifted to the Spaceguard centre in Wales as it was no longer in use at Cambridge. The telescope is currently being renovated and will eventaully be brought back into service using a CCD sensor instead of the original photographic plate system. More details can be found here..https://spaceguardcentre.com/drax/

I was my pleasure to work on the 24.5-inch primary mirror for this telescope which had suffered from years of neglect.  The glass surface had suffered devitrification as well as other damage the cause of which was a mystery.
