LDS North Ward

Warner: Hurricane had two wards, the North and South Ward. We were always in the North Ward. Primary was on Wednesday's after school. You became a Trail Builder when you turned nine, a Treker at ten, and a Blazer at eleven. You had to earn patches to put on your bandlo.

At twelve you went into MIA, which included scouts, and were ordained a deacon. I remember going to the mountains above Beaver with the scouts and I almost froze to death. At first I was in a tent until an older scout kicked me out so I had to sleep by the fire. The next day the scout master said I was so close to the fire that he had to pull me out. I almost caught on fire.

We had ward dances and I danced a lot with Lannita, my cousin. I worked in the cannery a lot. I scalded the peaches, bringing them out of the hot water with a block and tackle and emptying them on a table so the women could peel and slice the peaches. I'd empty their pans of peels too. I worked in both the old and new cannery. I really liked working in the cannery. You earned credits which you could use for cannery food.

One time when I was in the High School choir we had a stake conference, the President of the Church, David O McKay, was there and the choir of the school was asked to sing a song. I sang a solo. That was really scarry.
