GMS Choir

The GMS Choir is an opportunity for 6-8th grade students to sing together!  Singers in this ensemble will participate in performances throughout the year, experience choral music in a variety of styles, and build vocal technique and music-reading skills.

Rehearsals

GMS Choir members will rehearse before school once a week:

Mondays - 7:15-8:00am - Treble Clef Voices (last names A-K)

Tuesdays - 7:15-8:00am - Treble Clef Voices (last names L-Z)

Wednesdays - 7:15-8:00am - Bass Clef Voices

The following morning rehearsals will combine the treble and bass clef voices to prepare for the concert: 11/6, 11/7, 1/29, 1/30, 5/6

Attendance

When preparing for performances, rehearsal attendance is a necessity.  In order to participate in performances, students must have no more than 1 absence per trimester. Students with no more than 1 absence per trimester will be allowed to sign up for the Adventureland performance at the end of the year.  We start singing at 7:15am, so it is best to arrive 5 minutes before rehearsal starts.  Tardies are also recorded, since punctuality is important when participating in a group like this.

Sharing with Sports

GMS Coaches and I encourage students to participate in both sports and music, and we are willing to share time.  Volleyball and Basketball usually practice before school every other week.  On choir mornings, students should leave sports practice a couple minutes early to change and be at choir rehearsal by 7:30am.  It is the student's responsibility to let Mr. Avery and the coaches know that they are involved in both activities.

Performances

The GMS Choir will participate in the following performances:

Performance Attire

GMS Choir members will wear GMS Vocal Music T-shirts with black pants and black shoes for performances.  T-shirts can be purchased from Mr. Avery for $10 (checks payable to GMS).  Students are responsible for finding the rest of the outfit.
