8th Grade Musical

In this nine-week class, students will produce a shortened version of a Broadway musical. Students will be involved with the technical elements of producing a musical such as designing and painting sets, organizing props and costumes, as well as designing lights and sound. Students will also be the actors, singers, dancers, and chorus for the musical. All students who are interested in being involved in the musical are encouraged to sign up for this class. It is not a requirement that a student wants to have a major speaking part or solo to be in this class. Production of a musical takes many people and different talents. The final project is an evening performance of a musical. Students may take this course more than one quarter.

Nebraska High School Theater Awards Showcase

Every year, GMS 8th grade music and drama students are invited to attend a touring Broadway production! This year's Broadway trip will be to see Disney's The Lion King at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:30pm.  We do not have school the following day.

This permission form and payment are due to Mr. Avery by Thursday, December 21.

Gretna Middle School participates in Omaha Performing Arts' Nebraska High School Theater Academy.  This means that OPA will send adjudicators to each of the 8th grade musicals at GMS.  The adjudicators take notes during the shows and provide the students and directors with feedback on the productions.  The adjudicators attend middle school and high school productions throughout Nebraska and honor these musicals at the Awards Showcase at the Orpheum Theater in early June.
