Gretna Middle School’s vocal music department strives to provide a welcoming environment for all students to experience, learn, and appreciate music through a variety of opportunities.
All 6th and 7th graders take one trimester of Music Class. Performance dates for this class:
1st Trimester Concert - Tuesday, November 7, 2023
2nd Trimester Concert - Tuesday, January 30, 2024
3rd Trimester Concert - Monday, May 6, 2024
At the end of their 7th grade year, students can suggest what elective classes they would like to take during their 8th grade year. 8th grade music electives include:
Since music classes are only a small part of the school year, students are encouraged to participate in one or more extracurricular choirs at GMS:
Another goal of the GMS music program is to prepare students for the Gretna High School music program! As 8th graders start to register for 9th-grade classes, they may feel overwhelmed by all of the choices and wonder if there is room in their schedule for music. In order to understand the benefits of continuing to include music in their schedule, I've asked some current GHS students Why Should I Sign Up for High School Choir?

Every year, GMS 8th grade music and drama students are invited to attend a touring Broadway production! This year's Broadway trip will be to see Disney's The Lion King at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:30pm. We do not have school the following day.
This permission form and payment are due to Mr. Avery by Thursday, December 21.
