Saturday and Sunday, May 4 & 5, 2019, the GLR hosted their 45th Annual Swap Meet at the Fowlerville, MI fairgrounds. The weather was great both days and the GLR probably set a record for the number of visitors and vendors. Gary McIntyre, vendor chairman, said all vendor spaces available on dry ground had been sold on Saturday. Thelma Stitt, gate volunteer chairman, said 1,368 people came through the gates on Saturday. And, this doesn’t include those 12 and under who came in free with an adult.
For the first time in years, many vendors were still set up on Sunday. There were also many visitors Sunday, with the increased number of vendors and good weather. The GLR tent at the entrance was continually manned and well stocked with tour brochures, Bulb Horns, GLR Newsletters, VMCCA application forms, and bottled water. A Detroit area swap meet had been cancelled due to impending inclement weather. Thus vendors and swap meet visitors were recommended to come to our meet. Several vendors I talked to said they annually attend the Detroit swap meet and this one was far better. Hopefully they’ll return next year. (Pictures and Article Submitted by Dave Plassman)
