Our History

The Great Lakes Region

The first VMCCA Bulb Horn published in January 1949 recognizes the "Michigan Region", most likely the forerunner to the "Great Lakes Region". It is unknown when the Michigan Region was formed. The VMCCA was formed on December 2, 1938 at the Hotel Statler in Boston, MA.

400 copies of the first issue of the Goggles and Gauntlets magazine were published in July 1953 by the Great Lakes Region. This inaugural publication announced: "In organizing and incorporating the new Great Lakes Region as a corporation not for profit, we have finally taken the step which will in the future be counted as a milestone in the progress of our organization. Each of us is vitally interested in our Club and we feel the thumbnail description of the operation of the new Region will be of interest." The first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Region was held at the Commodore Perry Hotel in Toledo, OH on July 11, 1953.

<Editor's Note: Need someone to research Bulb Horn publications from 1949 through 1953 to try and verify if the region name changed from "Michigan" to "Great Lakes Region" at time of incorporation (July 1953) and also research the VMCCA publication "The Bulletin" published from 1939 through 1948, to try and ascertain when exactly the "Michigan Region" was formed.>
