‘The boy had a bad dream last night. We’re keeping it between us. Pointless worrying the others when we have no reason to think it’s a prophecy. The Great Dane hasn’t bothered with France since the days of the Little Corporal, and she was on our side then. If I knew for sure I would have to notify L. She’ll think I’m making it up as an excuse to lure her to my deathbed and I can’t say that isn’t the case. If the Dane truly is against us then things look bleak. No Georges. Don’t start thinking like that. My group will triumph without me. The American will be here by then and he will easily fill the void. She’s a strange one, but she wouldn’t attack us without a reason, and I can think of none. Of course L had done nothing when she attacked her. I hope their truce can survive this mess.’
