New book published - Incarnate
Thanks for visiting my site. I’m a self-published Brit who’s been putting the Accursed trilogy of books together for more years than I care to remember. Originally, way back in the '90s, I started work on a completely different book which featured the spiritualist medium James Grey as a supporting character, and this trilogy came from that as I found my character alluding to events of WWII which I wanted to explore fully. That original project was ultimately abandoned in favour of this trilogy and its numerous offshoots, works which have been challenging at times for me but ultimately a labour of love. I really believe in this series and, like most authors, find myself emotionally invested in my characters. James Grey, Laura Spencer and Inge quickly developed lives of their own and proved easy to write about - if only every character could come as naturally as these three.
I’ve always been interested in history and find the ‘40s and ‘50s a fascinating time, of conflict, paranoia and suspicion, and that’s without incorporating the supernatural element. Through the spirits that contact James Grey, earlier times can be explored and both Laura and Inge have long, colourful pasts. The sequel actually goes further back as Roman times are explored in book two ‘Underbelly’, while book three 'Eidolon' is another lengthy tome which I can’t say much about without giving away huge spoilers.
By having my character participate in the greatest military campaign of all time I am aware of the responsibility that goes with that and feel I portray the US Army in a positive light – of the main core of characters James Grey is the most moral and likeable and it tends to be the female characters in this first book that occupy shades of grey. Combat is glimpsed, though the war is largely waged in other ways, with the global chaos a background to personal feuds and stealth warfare.
