Most word frequency data are derived from large text corpora, and thus measure how often a word is used in language - or the purely linguistic experience with a word. For the Flickr word frequency norms, we instead harvested image tags from Flickr, a large picture sharing website. Here, the words are thus inherently tied to extra-linguistic experience, lying at the intersection between linguistic and visual experience, with specific biases induced by being based on image-focused social media.
