1825

In December 1825, the family were removed from South Cerney to Castle Eaton. Presumably, they found themselves without any work and had applied for poor relief.

1841

There is no record of Ann being with the family on the 1841 census and it is not known for sure where she was at this time. There were several Hewer families in the east Gloucestershire parishes bordering Wiltshire and the name Ann Hewer was fairly common.

1842

It is possible that Ann gave birth to a daughter, Maria, in Fairford in about 1842. This is suggested by the record for Maria in the 1851 census for Burford where she was living with her aunts. No birth or baptism record has yet been found for Maria and further research is required.

I believe that at some point probably between 1841 and 1845, Ann died.

  • In his convict indent in 1837, James Legg alias Hewer is recorded as having three daughters.
  • By the time of his convict indent in 1845, he is recorded as having two daughters.

More research is required to establish the date of Ann’s death.
