DENVER — Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in honor of former Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Rogers, who died earlier this week. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.
“Joe was appropriately called a political trailblazer when he served Colorado as our state’s youngest ever lieutenant governor,” Hickenlooper said. “He didn't let any barriers stand in his way as he rose from humble beginnings to becoming only the second African-American elected lieutenant governor in Colorado. We share our condolences with Joe’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Rogers will lie in state from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the West Foyer at the state Capitol. His funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Rising Star Baptist Church, 1500 S. Dayton St. in Aurora. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
