The Field School follows the current University College London (UCL) procedures for fieldwork and a Risk Assessment designed to recognize potential risks to Field School staff, students and the general public in Greece, and put in place procedures to minimize them.  Covid 19 is only one of several potential risks that need taking into account.  At the same time, the Field School will have to comply with the Hellenic Government’s regulations, as well as any requirements of the Greek antiquities service, with whom we work.  All students holding places on the Field School will be kept informed of procedures, regulations and any changes.

As with other UCL field projects, the Astypalaia field school reviews its Risk Assessment annually.  This will be made available to all participants in the project.  Current UCL safety policy can be accessed through this websiteUCL Covid policy is on this websiteGreek government policy on arrivals in Greece is on this websiteIt will be necessary for everyone involved in the project to check regularly for any changes in the required measures.

At the time of writing (November 2023), proof of vaccination for Covid-19 is no longer required for work on UCL projects, or for entry to Greece.

If it is necessary to cancel the Field School altogether, including for reasons related to the Covid 19 pandemic, then Field School fees already paid will be refunded.
