6.3. John Hampden MP 1696-1754 unmarried. Described in the church of Great Hampden as the 24th hereditary Lord of Great Hampden who "bequeathed his Estates and Name to his Kinsman the Hon. Rob Trevor (now Hampden) son of the Rt Hon. Sir John Trevor, by Ruth, Daughter of John Hampden, Slain in Chalgrave Field MDCXLlll. Rob Hampden Dedicates this Monument ... to his Great-Grand-Father's & to his Benefactor's Memory". The Hon. Rob Trevor (now Hampden) would be the 1st Viscount Hampden, son of Thomas Trevor who was the son of Sir John Trevor and Ruth nee Hampden. The John Hampden here thus bequeathed to his 2nd cousin (they shared the same gt grandfather).

By normal laws of primogeniture, in 1754 when John Hampden died, there would have been no male descendants of the Patriot left to head the family, so you would look to his daughters, in order, Ann who married into the Pye family and had 3 sons, Ruth married into the Trevor family and had 2 sons and Mary was married into the Hammond family and had a son. Presumably, there were no male descendants of the 3 Pye sons, hence the inheritance went to the senior male descendent of Ruth ie Robert Trevor, later 1st Viscount Hampden?

7.5. Peter Cock. died in infancy

6.4. Ann Trevor

6.5. Elizabeth Trevor

6.6. Robert Trevor 1706-1783. 4th Baron Trevor and 1st Viscount Hampden. He changed his name from Trevor to Hampden in order to inherit the estates of his great-grandfather John Hampden. Later created 1st Viscount Hampden (1st creation - not to be confused with Viscount Hampden of Glynde which was the 2nd creation and shown elsewhere). He married 1743 Constantia de Huybert d. 1761 daughter of Lord Van Kruyningen. See the Trevor Family & Mystery page for the alternative and seemingly generally accepted view that he in fact had an earlier (Fleet prison) marriage that was hushed up and that Frances Trevor's father was a product of that marriage. Those marriages were very common in the first half of the 18th century and this source confirms that they created valid legal marriages. That would mean that such a marriage would create rights such as those of primogeniture over those of 2nd marriages. Presumably anyone marrying again when the earlier spouse was alive would be committing bigamy. So below shows the descendants from the known marriage to Constantia and an illegitimate son, Robert (7.5), who is believed to have been accepted as his child and along with Thomas (7.1) and John (7.2) was a substantial beneficiary in the 1st Viscount’s will. The descendants from the Fleet Prison marriage are shown on the Trevor Family & Mystery page. Linked here is Robert Trevor, 1st Viscount Hampden's Will which was obtained from the records by a descendent connected to the Trevor family. The will makes no mention of Rev John Trevor DD (which is consistent with the apparent attempts to cover up the Fleet marriage and so on). Robert Trevor who is understood to have been an illegitimate son is a beneficiary.

7.1. Thomas Hampden-Trevor, 2nd Viscount Hampden and 5th Baron Trevor 1746-1824 MP m1 1768 Catherine Graeme c1749-1804, dau of Gen. David Graeme MP, Secretary to Queen Charlotte and Comptroller, Queen Charlotte's Household; m2 1805 Jane Maria Brown c1773-1833. No issue

7.2. John Hampden-Trevor 3rd Viscount Hampden and 6th Baron Trevor 1749-1824 m 1773 Harriet Burton c1751-1829. He died three weeks after his elder brother. As neither had issue, the Hampden and Trevor titles became extinct. In the Black Book, Frances makes several references to the Hon. John Trevor and it seems likely that this is him as until shortly before his death, he would have been the Hon. She never found reason to say how he was related to her family. Some 60 years later, in 1884, the name Hampden was revived in the 2nd creation of Viscount Hampden of Glynde who did not inherit the title, but was awarded the Viscountcy having been a Speaker of the House of Commons -however, he was related by marriage to a descendant of the Patriot as is shown in the later section.

FROM WIKIPEDIA

Brand descended, almost directly, from Colonel John Hampden, the patriot; his forebear Sir John Trevor III (1624–72) of Plas Teg, son of Sir John Trevor II of Plas Teg and Trevalun, by Anne daughter of Sir Edmund Hampden of Wendover, had married John Hampden's daughter Ruth, who was his first cousin. That is to say the 19th Baron Dacre (aka Gertrude Roper (d1819) wife to Thomas Brand V (1749–94)) was the great-great-granddaughter of The Patriot.
