I have noticed that this site has many many visitors every day. It would be interesting to receive more information, comments and so on. Email me, Nick Harding at Njhnw5@gmail.com

This site has been created mainly to show the results of research carried out into the Fenwick family descended from George Fenwick 1728–1811 of Lambton, Durham who married Eleanor Addison in 1764 and their 8 sons. It includes research on other families such as the Perkins, Hunter and Barkley families where they are related to his descendants. At this time, it is very much a work in progress and perhaps always will be.

Anyone who can contribute to improving the site is encouraged to contact Nick Harding (njhnw5@gmail.com). I am a grandchild of Violet Edith nee Perkins who married firstly Bertie Fenwick, secondly Robert Clayton Swan.

Violet and Bertie Fenwick's daughter Rachel married Larry Harding. Details of that Harding family can be found on the Harding of Packington site here

Rachel Harding nee Fenwick's Memories which provide details of her early life involving Fenwicks, Swans, Perkins and Hunters can be found here.

The site presently contains these pages-

Fenwick family Starts with what little is recorded of the first sons for the seven generations leading up to George Fenwick 1728-1811. It is followed by what we have on descendants since then up to the present day - roughly a further 8 generations.

Sir John Fenwick 3rd Bt & earlier trees (Under Fenwick family). Trees we have covering the years before George Fenwick 1728-1811 are shown here as well as something on Sir John Fenwick, the leading Jacobite who was executed for his sins and whose horse, reputedly caused the death of William III. The accuracy of part of these trees and whether Sir John is in fact related to the Fenwick of Lambton family is uncertain.

Bertie's other daughter (Under Fenwick family). Explores what we have recently found out about Mary Verité Ward 1913-1973 who Bertie Fenwick almost certainly recognised as being his daughter from a relationship with Mabel Love 1874-1982 a well-known actress and Gaiety girl.

Perkins family Information on the Perkins family. Charles Perkins 1851-1905 was the father of Violet Edith 1874-1972 who married Bertie Fenwick 1870-1937. It also provides information on the family of Robert Clayton Swan whom Violet married after she had divorced Bertie.

Hunter family Information on the Hunter family. Edith Hunter 1854-1929 was the mother of Violet Edith Fenwick.

Valpy & Shuter families Information on the Valpy family. Sarah Frances Shuter née Valpy b1780. She was the grandmother of the Charles Perkins who was Violet Fenwick's father

Mott family. In 1908 Helen Cumberlege (1881-1968) married Roger Mott (1877-1956). This page gives a summary of Helen's ancestors starting with 8. George Fenwick 1728 – 1811 of Lambton. Below that is shown Roger's ancestors starting with generation 5. John Mott of Penn d. 1702 and John's descendants

In 2017 Roger Mott's grandson, also Roger, wrote a book "Fenwicks of the North" details of which can be found on the Fenwick Family page which also has the entire book in a link

Frances Barkley. Frances Barkley nee Trevor 1769-1845 was the mother of Jane who married Charles Perkins 1785-1851. Frances was the first white woman to circumnavigate the world - she insisted upon accompanying her husband. The Trevor and allied, Hampden families are also interesting and our records seem to confirm that there was something unexplained in their history which is explored in the Trevor Family Mystery page which is one of several subpages ie

.Trevor Family and Mystery This page includes a Private Memo to her son John Charles which Frances wrote. It was written in case the information contained in it were to be needed in order to excuse her sister for unspecified but illegal acts she had committed. It is very likely related to what was written in two articles (also in this page) in the Pall Mall Gazette which Ada Tyler copied and which maintained that Frances' father was the son of Viscount Hampden and a 1st wife following a marriage in Fleet Prison that was hushed up with hush monies paid. The topic is also relevant to the Cromwell, Hampden, Trevor, Buckinghamshire pages. Interesting consequences of the evidence we have is that anyone who is a descendent of Charles and Francis Barkley is also a descendent of John Hampden, regarded by some as a truly heroic figure.

Frances' Own Words. Has with only the addition of links, some of what Frances Barkley wrote late in her life about her earlier life at sea and since. It is from a notebook into which her great granddaughter Ada Tyler copied in 1907 what she had written.

Original Letters This contains some letters, the originals of which we have, from Frances' time.

Edith Barkley's Diary

Cromwell Hampden Trevor Buckinghamshire Families Summary (under Frances Barkley). This and the detailed page has been attempted due to interest in the Frances' connection generally to these families and particularly in the context of the "Trevor Family Mystery" topic.

Cromwell Hampden Trevor Buckinghamshire Families Detailed (under Frances Barkley). This provides more detail on these families.

Ada Tyler nee Perkins and/or her daughter Isobel, kept a notebook with information she had gathered. Most of its contents has been included in the above pages. Linked here is "Ada Tyler's Notebook Summary..t is a summary of its content and those pieces of text which have not been included elsewhere. There is a section on her husband's General Tyler's ancestors which include names such as Dacre, Trevor Roper, Bruce, Pryce which may be of interest.
