Restrained Pipelines
If the applied code is ASME B31.4-2012 for the piping systems, Table 403.3.1-1 Allowable Values for Pipeline System Stresses shall be referred. The code says that stress values for steel pipe during operation shall not exceed the allowable values in Table 403.3.1-1 in Para. 403.3 Criteria to Prevent Yield Failure, 403.3.1 Strength Criteria.
In this Table, the equivalent combined stress Seq is calculated using all the loads including pressure, sustained loads and thermal expansion, which means the operating conditions considered in the design.
Then, if you have to confirm the code requirement mentioned above with strict manner, you should check it manually for restrained pipelines. The stresses may be combined in accordance with the maximum distortion energy theory which can be calculated by setting Von Mises for Yield Stress Criterion in CAESAR II Configuration, SIFs and Stresses. It may be shown in stress report. And the allowable value is 0.9Sy (Sy is yield strength at temperature) for the equivalent combined stress.
