Motherhood

Estonian native sheep are usually good mothers and give birth to the lambs independently. They get usually one or two lambs. They may also get three lambs. Some Estonian native sheep ewes adopt easily other ewes lambs if needed. Some ewes hide their lambs in the straw if it is very cold outside. They dig a whole, put the lamb in the whole and cover it with straw. Ewes continue to give milk to the lambs up till 6 months age if not prevented.

No research has been carried out on estonian native sheep health.
