The birds woke us up at 05h00 along with the snoring from the neighbour's camp site.
The first 233 km took as along the Orange River to Groblershoop travelling through lush green farmlands with fields of vineyards and fruit trees.
We decided to take the shorter route to Richie and cut out Prieska and the planned detour via Orania. The long straight roads and heat were taking their toll.
Just before Upington we passed the Sun Farm called Khi Solar One that produces 50MW of solar power - The WEB site provides for interesting reading.
We stopped at Griekwastad to refuel and have breakfast at pretty Proviand Restaurant.
After passing through Campbell on the R64, we noticed three thunderstorms on the horizon. The middle storm was right in our path, moving from North to South. I slowed the pace to allow the thunderstorm to move South so that we only caught the tail end of it and the beginning of the 3rd thunderstorm. By the time we got to Richie, the storm had turned and was heading back towards Richie.
We setup camp very quickly to avoid everything getting wet. The storm barely hit us and was soon past.
Lucy, who runs the camp site no longer runs a restaurant on the premises and suggested we go to the Kimberley Diamond Brewing Company (KDBC) restaurant 1,5 km down the road. We walked to the KDBC and enjoyed craft beer tasting, pizzas and red wine.
