We woke up to a cold and wet Franschhoek. Today, the rest of the family were returning to their homes while Sean and I continued our journey North.. The temperature was 14.5C so we dressed warmly.
We traveled through Wellington and up Baines Pass. I think it is one of my favourite tar road passes as it is scenic with narrow winding roads and lots of tight bends.
We stopped at the Tolhuis along the R46 with the hope of enjoying breakfast. Unfortunately it was closed so we continued to Deja Brew Coffee Shop, which is just before entering Ceres .
The next stop was Ceres to refuel the bikes .
The gravel road to Cederberg was good so we made good progress and arrived as 11h22.
We stopped at the top of Gydo Pass and took photos of Ceres in the distance.
The Oasis is always a lovely stop-over through the Cederberg. It is rustic, refreshing and different.
After checking in, we had a cup of coffee before proceeding to the Rock formations and bushman paintings 9km further up the road. You must buy a permit to enter this conservation area at the Oasis Reception who then provide the lock combination code to open the gate into the reserve.
The bushman paintings are over 1000 years old and have been well preserved.
The main attraction is the largest cave called the Saal (Hall) that was used in a local movie.
After walking all the paths and taking lots of photos of the rock formations, we proceeded to the lovely restaurant at Kromrivier for a light snack and a craft beer.
Afterwards we headed back to Oasis Cederberg to unpack the bikes.
Beautiful gravel road winding through the mountains.
We stayed in the A-Frame rooms each with a single bed and linen.
