Card Weaving

This is a collection some of my various card-weaving experiments and projects.

If you would like to weave projects like the ones below, please go to my page Double-faced Weaving: How To! to get my handout to walk you through the subject, and Patterns for Double-Faced Weaving: ABCs, Runes, and a Gothic Motto for the sample patterns that accompany the handout.

If you are new to card/tablet weaving see my Introduction to Card Weaving for instructions and guides on how to get started with this style of weaving.

If you would like to try making cord by tablet weaving see my how-to guide on Tubular Tablet Weaving.

To see my takes on period patterns, see Recreations & Variations of Extant Tablet Weaving.

These are two pieces done with 46 cards in sewing thread on the same warp. They are just over an inch wide and 14 and 18 inches long when worn on the belt. They were done for a character at Mythical Journeys and contain the person's title, location of their estate, and their motto in Latin. The pattern is the Narrow Gothic Font from http://www.guntram.co.za/tabletweaving/patterns/fonts.html

This is also done in sewing thread and using the Narrow Gothic pattern, but using 42 cards. It is a bookmark for my father and contains the first two words of his favorite Latin hymn.

This was 30ish cards of silk thread in a chevron pattern. This was designed as a ceinture (the belt that sits under the bust, crosses in the back, and then is tied below the waist) with one of my bliauts.

This is done using the same font and number of cards as the first image on this page, but this one was done in heavy sewing thread. The completed piece is just less than two inches wide but about two and a half feet long.
