Raspberry Pi wild goose

I'd just chased a technical wild goose around the lab! The Raspberry Pi was unstable, intermittently rebooting, throwing weird errors,etc. all because of problems with the USB ports. Once I removed everything connected to the port, the problems disappeared. The system ran all night without issue.
Indeed this problem may have crashed the old hard drive..
I suspect that I may have damaged the the RaspberryPi's USB ports somehow (ESD for example).
