SARA GOMES, MSc

Research field: Microbiology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biophysics and Medicinal Chemistry.

Sara Gomes obtained her degree and MSc degree in Biochemistry, at Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. Her PhD thesis, under the supervision of L. Saraiva, has been focused on the development of biophysical-binding assays with the production of recombinant human proteins in microbial systems to confirm the binding of activators of p53, identified by the group, to the target proteins, particularly to mutant p53s. She has extended the yeast screening assay to new mutant p53 forms, and using this approach she identified new rmutant p53 reactivators from a library of SLMP53-1 derivatives synthesized under the co-supervision of MMM Santos. She has also studied the molecular mechanism of a potential inhibitor of the p73-MDM2 interaction identified in yeast.
