SS2i

I was until recently a champion of academic enterprise working to bring industry and our university, Nottingham Trent closer together. Now that I am in Germany I have transferred this to other people but this link remains to allow any interested parties to pass through to my replacements.

Scientific Services to Industry, SS2i, is based in Nottingham Trent University. It is a vehicle for providing service measurements on scientific equipment in the University. Our dean of science devised the scheme to allow us to interact more effectively with industry.

We have full time dedicated technical support to ensure that results are presented in a timely fashion and that the specifications of the customer are met as closely as possible. Our aim is to bridge between service measurements provided by commercial companies and those traditionally provided by universities by offering reasonable pricing, fast turnaround and expert scientific backup.

We aim to deliver service measurements to help us to maintain our equipment to the highest standards and to support industry in the U.K.. We also aim to connect industrial scientists with researchers in our university to foster partnerships for the future.

Our initial focus was on confocal and electron microscopy, but we have also gained access to other equipment in the university. The major techniques represented are

Confocal/fluorescence microscopy

Scanning electron microscopy

Transmission electron microscopy

X-ray diffraction

NMR

ELISA

Microbacterial analysis

Other equipment is available and some of it is detailed on our web page www.ntu.ac.uk/ss2i but we will consider any specific requests.

We welcome any contact through our e-mail address ss2i@ntu.ac.uk, by telephone to Gordon Arnott, +44(0)115 848 8665.
