In 2014, the Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum was featured in The Public Historian - Public History and Environmental Sustainability (Vol. 36, Number 3, August 2014 - published by The University of California Press). The article is titled, "Reflections on the Public Interpretation of Regional Environmental History in Western Pennsylvania" and was written by Chris J. Magoc - Professor and Chair of the History Department at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. A co-founder of the university's Green Team, Magoc teaches courses in Environmental History and directs the Mercyhurst Public History program. The article highlights the Historical Society's ongoing efforts to preserve the memory of the 1948 Smog and received national recognition: Honorable Mention for G. Wesley Johnson Award of the National Council on Public History for best article in the journal for 2014.
