Effective in early 2015, I've had reoccurring problems with Chase.com, specifically with changes they made to their Online-banking web site for Login. They apparently examine the IP-address of my computer, and if it isn't the same as it was the last time I completed a Login, they force me through a complex Identification Code procedure which requires they send me a code (I used email for that), and then I have to copy/paste it into a completion page they provide. This was happening any time my IP-address changed. Every night I turn my modem OFF. When I turn it back ON, my ISP supplies a new IP-address.
I discovered that Chase was storing "cookies" with this information, BUT in Firefox I could control cookies, and I've done so using the Privacy settings, as shown below. These setting allow Chase to store cookies, but only for the duration of my browser's session. When I "quit" from Firefox, they go away. So the next time Chase Login is attempted, there are no cookies for comparison, and it accepts my computer. Unfortunately, I can't control Safari or Chrome the same way, so when I use them to access my Chase accounts, I have to go through the Identification Code procedure. All of this is on Macintosh systems, but I've tested Chrome on Windows 7, and this same (annoying) procedure happens there too.
Probably the simplest thing Chase could do is only check the top two fields (bytes) of the IP-address. For example, my ISP has 71.131 (decimal) in the top two bytes. Other ISP providers have different values. Of course this assumes Chase is examining my IP-address. None of the Representatives I've spoken too can actually tell me what's happening. They're too focused on getting me logged in while I'm on the phone. I've filed a complaint, but haven't gotten resolution. Here it is January 29th, and ALL of my computers (two Macs and one PC) have blocked my Login using Chrome and Safari, and I've only been successful on Firefox, where I control cookies. Yesterday, the Representative told me to NOT use Bookmarks to get to Chase. Apparently, he thought my bookmark was the one saved AFTER I had logged in, which isn't what's needed BEFORE the login. I only have "https://www.chase.com" stored in my Bookmarks, and that's what I would type into the address-bar if I didn't have a bookmark to get to Chase. Continue reading below the images...
At the beginning of March 2015, Chase changed their web-code again, and now Firefox won't display their main page as a web-page. Instead, it appears as an outline of links and other things, and NO buttons. In other words, I can't use Firefox anymore to access my Chase online account. Chrome works on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and Safari works on both Snow Leopard and Leopard. Firefox doesn't work on any of my Macs.
In the summer of 2015, I left Chase and took all my money to another bank, where everything works.
