I’m interested in the interpersonal dynamics of interracial interactions and conversations about race more broadly. My research aims to identify the specific goals and concerns that different people have before, during, and after race-related situations, and to understand how these goals and concerns affect the quality of the interaction. My hope is that a more nuanced understanding of the challenges people face in race-related situations can inform the design of more effective diversity trainings that give people the specific tools they need to engage in productive dialogue about racial issues and across racial boundaries.
