Submitting SafeAssignments / Google Docs
There may be a compatibility issue with Word format files (.docx) created on Google Docs that fail to upload to SafeAssign.
When a user attempts to upload the file, an error message may be generated that SafeAssign could not process the file even though it is in the supported .docx format. The issue is with how Google Docs converts the file to Word format.
A workaround to this problem is copying/pasting your text from Google Docs into either WordPad on Windows or TextEdit on a Mac. Or, if you have access to Microsoft Word, you can open the file with the application to save and overwrite the existing file.
Audio/Video files
If you find that the audio and video files don't play when you click on the links, or you are having trouble downloading files from Blackboard, here are some things for you to try.
1) The most common problem is that when you click on a link in Blackboard, you may see a security warning. Be sure you say No. The reason is that video and audio messages come from a non-secure site, and Blackboard is delivered from a secure (https://) site. [Of course, if you don't trust the site where you are downloading the files from, then say Yes. This will block the non-secure content.]
2) Be sure you have recently run Windows Update. In Internet Explorer, go to Help > Check for Updates. The URL is http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us . This will ensure that Windows and Internet Explorer are up to date and all security patches have been installed.
3) Be sure you have the latest version of Java installed. Just go to http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp and select Free Java Download.
4) Be sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Flash Player Installed. Adobe Flash Player is available at http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer. Adobe Shockwave Player is available at http://www.adobe.com/go/getshockwave.
5) Go into Internet Explorer, click on Tools, then on Internet Options. On the General tab, go to Browsing history. Click Delete.... and delete Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, and History.
6) While in Internet Options, click on the Settings under Browsing history and select Every time I visit the webpage, then click OK.
7) Also in Internet Options, click on the Security tab. Click on Trusted sites, and then click on the Sites button. Make sure that https://delval.blackboard.com and http://delval.blackboard.com are listed. If not, Add them. Be sure to uncheck the box for "Require server verification (https:) for all all sites in this zone".
8) Finally, in Internet Options, click on the Privacy tab. In the Pop-up Blocker section, click the Settings button. Be sure delval.blackboard.com is in the Allowed sites list. If not, Add it.
Close Internet Explorer and restart it. That should take care of the problem. If it doesn't it's time to contact the HELP Desk at 215-489-HELP (4357).
