Rural School Visits. Mrs. Netra Wagh with students.
SCHOOL VISIT (September 2013)
DEIS sponsored the Feedback Questionnaires printing for a project called Rotary Distance Education Project. Dr.Pradeep Wagh is also Chairman, Surveillance Audit for this project in Pune District.This Feedback is summarized below for first 36 forms :
Additionally Surveillance Visits were made to four schools in Tal. Yavat, Dt. Pune .

Normally we have a very poor opinion about Indian Govt. run schools. But was pleasantly surprised to see all these schools maintained very neat , clean and being run in a disciplined manner.
Highlights:
The teachers were all very dedicated to the uplift of their wards, almost like a religion.
Each school had a very active Parent's committee who serves as a positive force in the schools functioning.
Each class had limited number , upto 30 or less students making it easier to give personal attention.
Most children were of poor rural poor farm laborers, who were illiterate and hence unable to take studies of their wards. To overcome this problem partially, in each class the students had been formed into teams of four or five students , These teams did revisions and home work together in a time allocated to them. A clever student of the group helped the weaker students.
They were actively using computer aided educaion, given by the social organization, like Rotary under the ROTARY DISTANCE EDUCATION PROGRAMME ,RDEP..
Some progressive urban citizens, Rotarians in particular had taken it upon themselves and were regularly visiting the rural schools and helping them with educational aids, training of teachers, infrastructure etc. This seemed to make quite some difference in the morale of the schools.
Rotary Distance Education PC+projector , one unit exists in every school.This unit is installed in one of the regular classes. So when other class has to be shown the lessons on the projector, this class has to be moved out for some time. ZP schools have limited class rooms, siy six or seven and they are unable to give a dedicated room for the PC+ Projector.
All schools are beset with long hours of power cuts making the utility of the system hampered.
Hence most school did not seem to want additional units till their problems of power and separate viewing hall are resolved.
Some schools parallely use software of other agencies ( like ETH) which is loaded only on PCs in a separate lab. Teams of 5 or 6 students then follow the lessons at one time. The same PC is also used to give lessons of MS-CIT for Microsoft Office, power point etc.
