2021
We wish to make all new spouses comfortable.
That said, there is almost no such thing as privacy at Windfall.
Many (but not all) older types prefer to actually SLEEP and found places elsewhere (Great job Jen, Ken, Texas Joneses, Liz and LEE!)
There's rarely a 'great bed' choice; all have pros and cons. But over the years, hopefully you have some great years mixed in with the challenging years. It's worth it to self-advocate if you think you have drawn a short straw too many years in a row.
Those of the 7 Sibling generation typically get a wee bit of privilege over the next generations. Sorry. WE APPRECIATE how youth gives some of us fewer aches and pains....
Napping children need to be accommodated in some way. Those parents should definitely speak up for their needs and should bring baby monitors. We all should offer quieter, darker spaces to our family members in need of such for napping purposes.
"Rest" is not exactly something you can expect out of Group Week. Nor is "quiet" at bedtime. It's just mayhem, lovely group mayhem, with a well timed excursion really advisable. That said, let's watch how LATE the living room LOUDNESS goes. If you need quiet for sleeping, it's good advice to bring a sound machine, earplugs, listen to your iPod....
If you have a door that closes, consider offering your space to others to change in or store luggage. Especially if they are your own kids. :)
Some of us worry about tripping, so we're fanatical about what gets left on the floor. Scoop kiddy toys to the perimeter and contain them.
The clothes lines (and labeled clothes pins) help us keep the dampness OUTSIDE and minimize laundry and septic system crises. Yea! Can anyone set one up to keep the laundry off the deck where it blocks the view?
Although we have soooooo many towels, we might be at a good time in Windfall's history to receive donations of full and queen sized sheets if you are retiring any from your household. An extra set for twin size wouldn't hurt and maybe some washcloths. All of the above hide in the closets of downstairs bedrooms or possibly under the stairs when you are looking-- they're in huge plastic tubs. (Please don't donate more big towels since we really are good there and storage space is the bigger issue.)
We need to keep the damp out of the downstairs by running the dehumidifier constantly, unless, of course, the windows have been briefly opened on a dry day.
REALLY short (navy?) showers this year due to pressures on septic system (or go to the Comforts???)
If you can wait till you go home to do laundry, that's a kindness to the system which will be on OVERDRIVE with all the dishwashing and toilet use.
If you do laundry, include kitchen towels in your load.
The dryer downstairs doesn't dry big loads well. Make use of the laundry line and the WindfallBack dryer instead? Keep the loads MOVING. :)
