About Me

My education took place in Coimbra, the Portuguese city of students. As a kid I was very interested in Math, Computers, World Geography and the English Language.

I studied Electrical Engineering and Computers in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, and after 5 years I got my Master specialization in Computers.

My master dissertation had the following title: “RoboCops: A Study of Coordination Algorithms for Autonomous Mobile Robots in Patrolling Missions”, and was defended in September 2009.

From 2010 to 2013, I was awarded a PhD Grant from FCT (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology). My PhD focused on multi-robot systems, their scalability in Patrolling Missions and applying such systems to real situations. My Scientific supervisor was Prof. Rui Rocha and the work took place in the Mobile Robotics Laboratory (MRL) at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR) of the University of Coimbra (UC).

During my PhD, I had the opportunity to teach practical lessons and supervise Master students at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computers. I delivered my PhD thesis in September 2013, and defended it in March 2014. It was approved unanimously with distinction and honors.

In January 2014, I became a research member of the EU FP7 TIRAMISU project. My work took place at the Field and Service Robotics Laboratory (FSR Lab), and it was mostly focused on technology and intelligence for field robots in Humanitarian Demining tasks.

In July 2014, I accepted a different challenge to begin working at CiTARD Services, a R&D research company based in Nicosia (Cyprus), involved in several European projects. I have worked as a technical and project manager in the SocialRobot MSCA IAPP project, CogniWin AAL FP7 project, and the GrowMeUp H2020 project.

In 2016, I embraced a new challenge at Ingeniarius, Ltd., a technological solutions company based in Coimbra with a strong business core in mobile robotics, wearable technology, artificial intelligence and cloud robotics. I have worked in the STOP Portugal 2020 project, which focuses on cooperative robotic security for indoor infrastructures.

Since 2019, I am back at the Institute of Systems and Robotics of the University of Coimbra as an Assistant Researcher, working in the CORE and SEMFIRE Portugal 2020 projects. I am also an invited professor at DEEC-UC. Since 2020, I act as co-PI of the WoW CMU-Portugal at ISR-UC, and became PI at UC of the 5GSmartFact MSCA ITN project and PI at ISR-UC of the TRUSTID Erasmus+ project in 2021.

Beyond work, I have other interests such as practicing and watching sports, especially football. I support my local team from Coimbra: Académica. I also love to travel and collect coins from countries all over the world.
