UPM

UPM-Kymmene, one of the leading forest products companies in the world, was established in autumn 1995 when Kymmene Corporation and Repola Ltd and its subsidiary United Paper Mills Ltd decided to merge. The new company started its operations 1 May 1996. UPM-Kymmene has a long tradition in the Finnish forest products industry. The Group's first mechanical pulp mill, paper mills and sawmills started operations in the beginning of 1870's. Pulp production began in 1880's, paper converting in 1920's. Plywood production began in the late 1930's. The present UPM-Kymmene Group comprises of approximately 100 production facilities, which were originally functioning as independent companies. Among others, the following companies were merged to the group: Kymi, United Paper Mills, Kaukas, Kajaani, Schauman, Rosenlew, Raf. Haarla and Rauma-Repola's forest industry operations. The oldest of the UPM-Kymmene's mills, Papeteries de Docelles, is located in northeastern France. It started as a traditional handpaper mill already in the end of 15th century. The first paper machine to this mill was acquired in 1830's. UPM-Kymmene's printing paper range consist of coated as well uncoated magazine papers, newsprint and coated as well as uncoated fine papers. UPM Converting's main products are label materials, packaging materials and envelope papers. UPM-Kymmene Wood Products' main products are sawn timber, plywood, planed timber and value-added derivatives.
