President Mona Spano opened the meeting, welcomed and thanked the group for their support and care because that is who the Lady 9ers are. A table blessing was given by Carol Whitaker.
Mona Spano reopened the meeting following lunch and thanked the 2020 Social Committee for organizing this wonderful luncheon. Mona asked if everyone was done with 2020! And to add a little humor she told a joke! She introduced our newest members, Camille Lupino, Kimber Rhoads, Lois Fields, Sue Forbus, Debbie Hall, Linda Harrison, Marla Zoch – who rejoined, Susan Jackson, and Jennifer Phelps. Mona acknowledged the 2020 Board Members and thanked them for all they have done this year. She also thanked Dot Maginot for being our event photographer!
Secretary Kay Dennis reminded the members that the minutes from the 2019 Annual Meeting and Luncheon held November 5, 2019 were emailed to all of them. She asked if there were any additions, deletions or changes. There were none. She asked for a motion to approve the minutes, Dianne Clark motioned, Mij Tresnak seconded, all were in favor, and the minutes were approved as written.
Treasurer Donna Wilems said that her job this year was super easy as there were very few events, unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 Virus. She reported that one of the big changes implemented this year was how we now direct charge accounts for game day lunches. She thanked Jennifer for making this change and the members for agreeing to it. Everyone agreed that it is much simpler. Donna reported that most of the expenses for 2020 were related to game day events – prizes and decorations. She congratulated the Games Committee for a job well done, stating that we were blessed that golf was an activity that we could carry on during the pandemic. The Social Committee had a really hard job this year – planning, cancelling, rescheduling, and re-cancelling events. They worked so very hard and all the decisions they made regarding the cancellation of events were the right ones. As a result, No events means the budget is still intact! Donna stated that the last two games events, The Masters and Tailgate and Tees are scheduled and hopefully there will not be anything to cause these events to be cancelled. The budget is estimated to end with a balance of between $2,500 and $2,700. Because of the unusual circumstances this year and the remaining balance in the budget, dues have been reduced to $35 for 2021. She reminded everyone that they could give her a check today or drop one off in the Lady 9ers mail slot at the Club House.
Vice President, Rose Leewright mentioned that there were times when there was some delay in updating the Home Page of the Website due to the difficult events going on in her life related to the fire at their home this year. She expressed her heartfelt thank you to all the ladies for their support during this difficult time in her life! She stated that we are not just a golf group, we are a wonderful support group and she could not express enough how much she and Larry appreciate all that was done for them!
Membership Chair, Pat Collie stated that we had 59 members at the end of 2019 and in 2020 we had 62 members. With Paula Harms and Jennifer Phelps moving this year, we are back to 60 members. New members were reported by President Mona Spano, so Pat did not rename those members. Gina Teer sends out emails to the Presidents of each club that includes lists of new people. Mona forwards that to Pat and she reaches out to all those that have purchased golf memberships and invites them to join the Lady 9ers. She has about 7 ladies that have shown an interest in joining in 2021. She stated that she brought a few of the membership rosters and if anyone wanted a copy to come see her after the meeting.
Games Chair, Jennifer Natale reported that we took two months off due to COVID-19 and that since we restarted games again, we have had lunches following the games outside either at the Honor House or on the CT Pinnacle Grill patio. The next game, The Masters, is scheduled for Thursday November 12. It will not matter which course we play as we will tee off from 150 yards or closer. Even if it is the Creeks, it will be easy for everyone. She showed off the new Masters jacket and reported that the game would be handicapped at 50% since we will be teeing off from a closer yardage. She encouraged everyone to come out and play. Jennifer gave a huge “Thank You” to Susie and Dot for taking care of the last 2 or 3 games. They have done a fabulous job and been very creative with tee markers. Tailgates and Tees is scheduled for December 6, 2020 and the “Tailgate” party will be held in the Scotts back yard again this year. Thank you Scotty and Jerri. Since everyone enjoyed the barbecue last year, we will provide that again this year. We will need to order more food his year as we ran out of some items last year, so we are thinking the price per person will be around $12, but Jennifer and Donna will assess expenses and determine for sure. Jennifer encouraged everyone to come out and play with their partner.
Adele Cattran asked whether we needed to renew our handicap. Mona stated that a lot of the Lady 9ers don’t especially those who do not play very often. She said that she talked to the Pro Shop and it is not required for the Lady 9ers to have one. They can, if they want to, but it is not required. The Pro Shop will calculate a handicap for ladies who do not have one for any game day activities.
Social Chair, Kathy Leonard and Theresa Page gave a very special surprise entertainment for the ladies by performing a song and dance Luau invitation to the music of the song YMCA by the Village People! After all they went through this year, it was wonderful to see them so light hearted and up beat! It was enjoyed by all! They stated that the Luau is scheduled for March 20, 2021, and they will be sending out an email with details after the first of the year. They thanked all the ladies for being patient and understanding this year with the on again off again situation. They acknowledged their committee members and thanked them for all their hard work planning the events. They also thanked the Board for their patience and guidance during this unprecedented year.
Carol Whitaker, our Caring Angel, reported that last year on November 15 she had a balance of $155.22 and today she has $207.81 plus $20 that she received from members today. She reported that she gave out 16 gifts this year!
Pat Collie reported on Tuesday practices. She stated that these practice days saved our lives during this difficult time. She wanted everyone to know that with all the new social distancing rules and rules regarding number of carts on the fairways, that the Lady 9ers have been given lots of compliments for not only following the rules, but maintaining the pace of play. Well done! Pat stated that Charlie Syphrett from the Pro Shop is helping her get better tee times for Tuesday practices and she is very appreciative of his assistance.
Mona also reported that Thursday’s play group time will begin at 10:30 until April. The change in start time will no longer conflict with the LGA start time.
Mona thanked all the members for allowing her to be their President for the past 2 years. But, said it is now time to pass the baton to our next President. She thanked all the Board members for supporting her and for all they do for the Lady 9ers. She recognized the other retiring members for their service on the Board: Kay Dennis – Secretary and Jennifer Natale - Games Chair.
Mona presented the proposed slate of new officers.
President Suzanne Gschwind
Vice President Rose Leewright
Secretary Harrilyn Pitcock
Treasurer Donna Wilems
Membership Chairperson Pat Collie
Games Co-Chairperson Susie Geiger and Dot Maginot
Social Co-Chairpersons Theresa Page and Kathy Leonard
If there is no objection, we will go ahead and vote. The “Ayes” passed. The above slate was elected by acclamation. Their term will begin January 1, 2021.
Mona asked Suzanne to come up as is tradition and be pinned with a frog pin, our mascot!
Mona encouraged all to consider assisting the Lady 9ers Board by volunteering to help on a committee.
She asked if there was any further business. Kay raised her hand, and then gave a tribute to Mona for all her years of service to the Lady 9ers. Seven of the years that Mona has lived in Comanche Trace, she has held a position on the Board and has always worked to recruit new members and work with the Pro Shop to ensure that we are respected and treated fairly! She is our biggest supporter! Although she is stepping down from a role on the Board, she will continue to support this group as she always has! Thank you Mona for all that you have done and will continue to do for us! She was presented with a personalized purple Yeti cup and frog earrings!
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 1:30 pm.
