1.06AV Website for Students

SCENARIO:

You should have a website for your students, parents and employers to access.

SOLUTION:

The website you will create in CTE555 is for the benefit of the students, parents and employers connected to your wblprogram. It is not a site for you to post and save your online assignments as we did in CTE550.

The site you about to create will share the resources, forms, job success lessons, advisory board information, list of participating employers, etc.

Look at the Patchogue/Medford wbl site at https://sites.google.com/site/pmhscareers/corporate-raiders. Patchogue'swbl program is called the "Corporate Raiders." It is a career exploration, non-paid CEIP program. the wblc, Lorraine Meyers, uses this site for program information, announcements of events, documentation of success stories, and job related resources for the community.

3 Other Examples:

A nice example of advertising your Advisory Board can be found at http://www.msd.k12.ny.us/board.cfm?subpage=728

The creation and maintenance of the website is a reoccurring added value task in each module. You may choose any form of software to create your site: Google, Live Binders, WordPress, etc. All are free.

You can be as creative as you wish. In naming the site, I suggest you include your school's name and then the letters WBL. If you do not want to use your school's name in the URL, you can name the site anything you wish. You want to keep your URL as short as possible and easy to remember. Therefore, you may want abbreviate your school's name. For example, Lincoln High School could be LHS-WBL.

For this task,

1. Create your page and add contact information about yourself.

2. Make the site "open to the public" At the end of the class you can change the status of the site to make it private if you wish.

3. Fill out the Google Form to record your new website. CLICK HERE

4. You can see your classmates sites at: Click here.

BEGIN:

1. At your Internet browser, type in https://sites.google.com/

2. You will be prompted to login to your Google Account or you will need to create an account if you have not done so already.

3. Click on the word CREATE

4 Choose "blank template." Do not choose a custom template such as "class template" if this is the first time you are creating a site.

5. Name your site - I suggest something such as your school name plus the name of your program. Example:NorthSideHighwbl Your url address will be one big mixture of letters.

6. Choose "Make your site Public" so everyone in the class can see it.

7. Type the funny words, and your site should be created. At the top of the page Google announces it is creating your page. Within 1 minute your page is either created or it will tell you that the name is taken If you still see the words "creating your site" after three minutes, click on the back arrow key and it should take you to your site.

8. Make your site heading read correctly.

  • Choose the MORE tab. Choose "Manage Site"

  • Re-type your page name.

  • Click on SAVE

  • Click on the name of your site at the far left of the page.

9. You now need to add pages.

  • Click the icon on the right with the plus sign - CREATE PAGE

  • Name the page - CONTACT INFO

  • Place the page below the "top level" not under Home.

  • SAVE and click on your site name at the far left of the page.

  • Open the page by clicking the pencil icon.

  • Fill in the contact info for yourself and save. You could add your own picture.

You only need to set up a basic site. Wait to set up the additional pages in the mods to come.

Create your page and add contact information about yourself.

2. Make the site "open to the public" At the end of the class you can change the status of the site to make it private if you wish.

GOOGLE TOOLS - to find answers to your questions - in a Google search box use these words, "how to ? in Google sites"

You can search in You Tube for Google tutorials. Many of them are old and do not match the current layout but they are helpful.
