Study Overview
Bob Reed shared photographs that confirm the continuation of silt deposits in the lake, with the “sand bar” on the north end of the lake doubling in size over the past 2-5 years. He also noted an erosion problem around much of the peninsula. Bob made the point that the Association needs to remain open to new ideas for mitigation of these problems (given that several years ago the proposed approaches were abandoned due to high cost estimates). He proposed for research and discussion a concept that includes building a “sea wall” to contain erosion and to provide a receiving area for dirt removed from the floor of the lake. Bob also proposed that serious consideration be given to selling about 1 acre of the Association’s common area on Cherokee Lake Drive as a building lot, which might raise considerable capital for the lake project. Several potential pros and cons of the concept were discussed by Members. A sub-committee was appointed to research the feasibility, legality, and costs of various options and make a recommendation to the board. Sub-committee members are Bob Reed, Tom Mathis, Dan Norman, and Bob Calhoun. (Note: Any sale of Association common property and any special project that exceeds the board’s discretionary spending cap of $2,500 would be subject to Members’ approval.)
