Description:
Classification algorithms for agriculture have been developed and improved for a long time at Cesbio, mainly with optical images. The radar images of Sentinel 1 have been introduced but only the GRD mode (not complex) is used.
The Sentinel 1 satellites (A and B) transmit in VV and HV polarization in IW mode. We also have Radarsat-2 images in polarization VV, VH, HH, HV. The trainee will study the contribution of Sentinel-1 and polarimetric Radarsat-2 interferometric data in the monitoring of agricultural crops in the South East of France and some forests in the region. It will compare optical classification only, optical-radar, and radar only algorithms. The objective is to understand the synergy and complementarities of C-band radar and optical sensors for this type of landscape and to be able to plan an adaptive classification strategy.
Profile:
Student in the final year of engineering school or university, you are looking for an internship graduation and your interests take you to topics in remote sensing, image processing and applied mathematics and in particular for methods of analysis data (classification, machine learning, etc.).
You know linux and the python and C ++ programming languages. Autonomous, you are ready to take initiatives, enjoy working in a team.
Dates: June/july to December 2018
