The Zalando Fashion Insights Centre was founded with the aim of
understanding fashion through technology. In doing so, we’ve set ourselves
the goal of organising the world’s fashion knowledge. We work with one of
the richest datasets in eCommerce; products, profiles, customers,
purchasing and returns history, online behaviour and social media data.
At the Fashion Insights Centre, you will join one of Zalando’s core data
science teams, working on a broad range of interesting data science and
engineering problems. Teams are autonomous, well-resourced and committed to
best-practice. The Fashion Insights Centre is new and rapidly expanding,
giving you the opportunity to significantly influence the direction and
development of the R&D work that we are leading. We’ve started the journey;
we’re looking for the brightest minds to join us.
We don’t believe that Data Scientists need to be software engineers, but we
do insist that they are comfortable coding, and can work closely as part of
a product engineering team. At Zalando we are technology agnostic; if it
works, we use it. Team members typically use some combination of Scala,
Python, R, Java, Spark, Matlab, Hive or SQL, amongst others. We are
committed to open source development and like to publish our work.
Smart Product Platform
The Smart Product Platform team builds and develops the future
infrastructure for Europe’s largest fashion platform. Data scientists work
on distributed, scalable infrastructure where product data is enriched and
augmented using data science algorithms to learn from customer interaction
and behaviour as well as from fashion data on the web.
Customer Data Science
The Customer Data Science team studies the interactions people have with
our products, web-sites and apps in order to drive innovation on current
and future products. We do this to improve customer experience, to deliver
tailored, individualised fashion content to our users as well as to predict
and understand fashion trends as they emerge. Individuals in this role are
expected to be comfortable working as a software engineer and a
quantitative researcher, and have a passion for understanding social
phenomena.
Fashion Insights Platform
The Fashion Insights team studies fashion information from data sources
external to the Zalando ecosystem. This future-facing team listens to the
internet, for all relevant fashion data, filtering and interpreting this
information to enrich our product data, to predict future trends, and to
identify key influencers, segments and sub-cultures. Working with the
Fashion Insights team you will build a Knowledge Graph of the known fashion
and lifestyle ecosystem to understand and predict key topics, entities and
trends.
As a data scientist you will possess a strong:
-
Passion for identifying and answering worthwhile questions.
-
Flexible analytical approach allowing for solutions at varying levels of
precision.
-
Ability to communicate complex quantitative research in a clear, precise
and actionable manner to product managers, stakeholders, peers and the
wider data science community.
-
Interest in driving the collection of new data and the refinement of
existing data sources.
-
Commitment to ensuring that data science best practices implemented and
constantly evolving.
We particularly encourage candidates with expertise in one or more of the
following:
-
machine learning and predictive modelling
-
text mining and natural language processing
-
statistical modelling and hypothesis testing
-
data mining, information extraction and retrieval
-
user modelling and computational social science
- distributed computing (Hadoop, Hive, Spark, etc.)
