Classroom Update 1/30

Post date: Jan 30, 2012 11:39:47 PM

Chinese New Year will be celebrated through a presentation and a luncheon on Friday, February 3. This is also Student Council's Pajama Day (spirit day).

We will choose out parts for our class play this coming week. The play will be performed on 2/16 and 2/17 in the B-pod at 12:35 PM. Parents are welcome to come and watch.

Math

Within math, we have started working with making the connection between decimals and fractions. This chapter will continue to help reinforce students knowledge of how to order and compare both decimals and fractions. A benchmark test will be given this week and will be returned towards the end of the week.

Language Arts

This coming week, we will start our new theme within the HM program, Problem Solvers. We will be reading The Last Dragon this week.

Attached to last week's update was a student record of what has been read this trimester in the Accelerated Reader program. As stated in an email, parents and students now have access to their own records through Renaissance Home Connect. You can track right from home as to what has been read and the percentage earned.

Writing

The first narrative writing prompt practice was returned this past week. Within class, we reviewed the scoring rubric used by the state and looked at some sample papers. The prompt where they were to choose to spend the day with someone, will be returned early this coming week.

Science

Chapter 6 science tests and vocabulary and outline sheets were returned this past week. We will begin chapter 7 in which we will explore magnetism. Vocabulary and outline sheets for chapter 7 will be sent home with students after the social studies test.

Social Studies

Students have each chosen a mission to study. WIthin class, we have made a timeline in the computer lab. We set up an organizer this past week and have begun the note taking process so that each student will be able to write their report. Much of the work will be done within class.
