Post date: Jan 22, 2012 7:14:50 PM

It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the second trimester!

There are a few items that are upcoming. Fourth Graders will ring in the Lunar New Year by learning more about Chinese New Year through a presentation and a luncheon on Friday, February 3.

Our class play, California Missions and More, will be performed on 2/16 and 2/17 in the B-pod at 12:35 PM. Parents are welcome to come and watch.

Math

We have wrapped up our fractions unit with math. The next chapters begins to explore the relationship between decimals and fractions. We will continue to work with the different ways that we can manipulate fractions and mixed numbers. Chapter 17 test was sent home with the students this past week. For those that scored 15 or fewer, were required to submit their corrections back to the classroom.

Language Arts

Theme 3 skills test will be administered this week. Results will be attached to this week's update. Also attached to the update will be a student record that will be show the books that have been read this trimester.

Writing

Students continue to practice with the different writing styles through weekly writing assignments. We continue to stress the importance of organization and editing and revising. We will continue our work on summary writing this coming week as that will be the next area of focus for our weekly writing practice.

Science

This week, we will have our science chapter 6 test. Science vocabulary and outline sheets worth 10% of grades will be due at that time. This week, we finished building quizboards and utilized them to help us with our review for this upcoming test.

Social Studies

We continue to learn about California under Spanish rule. This week, students were assigned a particular mission to study (written on the weekly update). This coming week, we will explain to students as to how we will put together this information report. We will begin with a graphic organizer where we will take notes. As we are taking notes this week, we will be recording events for a timeline that will be part of our report.
