We have had our in class qualifiers for the geography bee and spelling bees. The Geography Bee will be held on January 12 and 13 for the Geography Bee. (both at 1 PM in the MUR) More information can be found at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/. The Spelling Bee will be held on January 24 at 8:30 AM in the MUR. More information can be found here http://www.spellingbee.com/.

Thank you to all the people who have sent in their forms for our heritage feast on Friday. It will be at 11:45 within our room. Students are requested to bring in a drink. There will be water available for our parent guests.

Math

We are wrapping up our division chapter within math. There will be some quizzes prior to break. As part of this chapter, students also learned about averaging numbers. The next chapter will work with divisibility rules and prime numbers.

Science

We learned a bit more about static electricity within lab this week. This coming week, we'll try to "light the bulb". Students will be given outline and vocabulary sheets prior to the break. Test is set for January 26.

We took some time within class to conduct a science fair project and even shared some sample projects. This past week, the packets that came home also included a proposal sheet that students will have to complete. Later on this week, students will be given a project board.

Language Arts

We plan on finishing up Island of the Blue Dolphins in the coming week. There will be a response to literature question that will be given as homework towards the middle of the week. We will watch the movie and think about comparing and contrasting the movie to the book.

Social Studies

We have started chapter 3 and students will be given outlines this week. Test is set for February 9. With this chapter, students will learn more about informational writing as they write a Mission Report. Much of the work will be done within class. Simliar to the Native American Choice Menu activities, there will be a Mission Choice menu that will be assigned. More information about the project will be shared with students towards the beginning of the year. Soon we will begin to research them a bit more so that students can be involved in the decision on which mission they would like to learn more about.
