Classroom Update

Thanks again to all the parents who accompanied our class to the Muir House on Friday. Volunteer opportunities continue with statons wtihin the classroom on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please visit VolunteerSpot to sign up. Ask students about Mind Mixer, Frog Games, or The Cricle Game. More activties will be introduced as we continue with stations. We would love to have some Friday volunteers. CLICK HERE

Student Council Officer speeches and elections will be on Thursday at 9 AM in the MUR. Parents are more than welcome to attend.

PTA's book fair is coming! It will be from 9/26 to 9/30. The book fair will also be open on Tuesday night from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Information about the California Cookie Project which will be on Tuesday, September 27 was sent home on Friday.

Language Arts

We will start our next story, Grandfather's Journey this next week. We have been working on learning about complete subjects, complete predicates, simple subjects, and simple predicates.

Students took their second spelling test on the computer this past week utilizing Quiz. You can always log in to Quia to check their results.

Math

Within math we have started working on estimation with addition. We then used that skill to help check our exact answers. Students also took a quiz this week on rounding as well as place value which was returned in their Friday mailboxes. Please continue to practice those basic facts. We continue to work in the computer lab on Math Facts in a Flash.

Science

Ask your student about their beanies!!! They've grown and are now planted. We will continue to record our results as the beans continue to grow. Such green thumbs at such a young age. Within lab this week, we also worked with celery and food coloring in water understanding more about the different parts of a plant. Students were also given vocabulary and outline sheets (worth 10% of their grade) which will be due on the day of the Chapter One science test, 10/6.

Social Studies

We've read through chapter 1, lesson 2 within our Social Studies textbooks learning about the different regions of Cailfornia. We will due a writing activity this next week to go ahead and strengthen this understanding of the different regions.
