Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

"This isn't the end of a journey but the beginning. You're now where most people who lose a loved one or loved ones start" (385). If you loved Jeff Zentner's The Serpent King, you won't be disappointed with the heartbreaking realistic writing of his Goodbye Days (with a shoutout to Dearly!). In this novel, the main character, Carter, deals with the loss of his three best friends and the possibility that the last text message he sent was the reason they were in a car accident. Carter commits to taking the families of his friends on a "Goodbye Day" to say goodbye to their loved ones and offer closure. It's heart-breaking and sweet and hard to watch each family struggle through their own kind of grief. Jeff Zentner is an artist. His first book was not a one-hit wonder... I am sure there are many more to come from this author, and I look forward to all of them.
