The Kapaa Coastal Path is officially named the Ke Ala Hele Makalae Project. This project envisions six phases of pathway construction along the east coast of Kaua`i. The first two phases are complete. We are going to focus on the Phase 2, the 4.1 mile path that generally borders Kapaa and heads north.
Phase 2 of this important community resource was opened in June, 2009. A very notable feature of this coastal path project has been the community support. This really is a community project and many, many citizens have been involved.
While the concrete path is complete, there has been little attention given to the possibilities for the use of the adjacent lands. The landscaping is ... well, practically non-existent except for the plants that have remained after the construction.
Assignment
The team should choose a section of the path and study its potential for conservation, including conservation education.
The team should create a project that will benefit the on-going activities of the community relative to this path.
After the Preliminary Visit, the team must devise a detailed work plan that fits within the constraints of the project (time and resources) and present this for approval to the Camp Leader. Please allow time for feedback and revision. The work plan should include:
The final product should be accompanied by a set of recommendations about how this assignment can be improved.
Constraints & Resources

Evaluation Rubric
Note that in this project, as well as all other projects, the team is being evaluated. All team members must recognize this and should work with the team leadership to define, complete and follow-up on the project.
