Flu Shot Vouchers

Free flu shots for Westminster campus adjuncts

When adjunct faculty were excluded from last week's campus-wide invitation to receive free flu shots, Colorado Adjuncts mobilized through our state and legislative contacts. The situation poses a risk to public health when 70% of the faculty (part-time or “adjunct” faculty) cannot afford the $25 vaccination and thus frequently do not get one.

Furthermore, we explained in our correspondence that adjuncts, unlike most other workers on campus, do not receive sick pay when they are sick. Consequently, many adjunct faculty go to work when they are ill, teaching their assigned classes so their pay isn’t docked. This dynamic spreads the flu to a wide population, as the adjunct faculty who teach two-thirds of all the courses are, perforce, meeting with thousands of students each week.

As a result of our quick action, we have been given vouchers for Westminster campus adjunct faculty to use to receive free flu shots at Walgreens Take Care Clinics.

Colorado Adjuncts thank the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Disease Control and Epidemiology Division, State House Rep. Randy Fischer and Walgreens for their lightning-fast response to our request for assistance.

Flu season is upon us. We don’t want adjunct faculty to suffer its effects. The vouchers are good at any Walgreens Take Care Clinic.

Beginning October 30, representatives from Colorado Adjuncts will be at the B-level entrance to the College Hill Library, handing out free flu shot vouchers to adjunct instructors, on the following days/times:

Tuesday, 10/30, 9 a.m - noon. and 1 - 3 p.m.

Wednesday, 10/31, 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, 11/1, 9 a.m. - noon

After the week of October 28, please contact us via email for flu shot voucher information.
