Lesson Objectives:
At the completion of the lesson the student will be able to:
Analyze the evolving nature of gaming.
Categorize games with respect to their “generations”.
Major Concept/Content:
This lesson provides high school students a historical context of the game design industry, allowing them to identify hardware, software, and programming innovations vis-à-vis a timeline that outlines 8 generations of gaming hardware platforms and the respective video games therein.
Driving Questions:
What does the future hold for game designers based on the advancements made in the game design industry? What predictions can we make in terms of types of games that will be developed, the hardware platforms that will be used, and the programming skills that game designers will need?
