Instructional Sequence – Describe in detail how you would teach this lesson? Please use these questions to help guide you.
How would you gain the students’ attention?
Introduce Game Design Career Options
A brief YouTube video of video games
How would you activate the prior learning?
Have the students describe their favorite video games and why on a Discussion Board or Blog
How would you present the lesson?
By creating a link to a Game Generations Lesson Plan on Google Site, Schoology, or other web-based platform that would lead the students through the lesson asynchronously
I would also incorporate synchronous learning activities via Adobe Connect.
How would you provide practice both guided and independent practice?
By providing information related to game, delineating which games and hardware platforms correspond to each of the 8 generations
Having the students compare and contrast various generations, highlighting similarities and differences
Please note: As this Lesson is an introduction piece, it limits the guided and independent practice opportunities (e.g., mostly knowledge based).
How would you incorporate both formative and summative assessment?
How would you give feedback?
Instant Messenger
Adobe Connect sessions
Phone
Written comments on assignments
List all Recommended Activities/Assignments:
Have students take a Pre-Assessment.
Have students take Cornell Notes on possible career options, choosing at least three viable employment opportunities they would like for themselves.
Have students watch a videogame YouTube video that takes the viewer through a timeline of video games and have the students write a two paragraph reaction to the YouTube videos.
Have students go through a presentation on the history of Game Design, having them compare and contrast various video game generations with each other.
Have the student discuss on a Discussion Board or Blog what they think the future of video games will be like, posting their initial thoughts as well as posting on other students' posts.
Have students take a Post-Assessment.
