About Major Concepts / Content:
This is going to be an exciting year for you as you become aware of your academic potential and your ability to succeed in school! The goal of AVID is to help you be successful in a college prep curriculum and help you achieve your potential. In the AVID class you will work to support your successes in school by learning study skills, note-taking strategies, time management and organization. AVID curriculum consists of the aforementioned and extends into writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading. Ninth and tenth grade curriculum focuses on creating a culture of success for high school while eleventh and twelfth grade extends the focus toward prepping for the SAT, college admissions, and financial aid.
Major Instructional Activities:
Students will participate in tutorials to clarify and reflect on course content. Cooperative learning, individualized instruction, team building and a project-problem approach will be emphasized. Students will prepare oral and written projects. Outside reading will be required. Synthesis of self-concept, values clarification, decision-making, and problem solving skills will be integrated into all phases of the course content.
My philosophy is that every student can learn and succeed through hard work and diligence.
