These days, many local sporting clubs require more than just technical skills to run their Internet presence. Having someone to manage the web presence is important, but this section of the guide is mainly devoted to specific skills that volunteers may require to set up and maintain the web presence. These are:
- Design skills: these are usually skills required for designing a club website, but these skills may also be required for other aspects of the club web presence as well.
- Preparing content: more recently, clubs are recognising that they need to be able to prepare the narrative (written text) for their news item and/or match or event reports so that they will engage their members, supporters and sponsors. This section of the guide is devoted to that.
- Technical skills: many clubs still struggle with the technical aspects of managing their web presence, including how to alter its appearance, how to make it secure, how to update content and how to automatically transfer content between platforms.
