Mu Alpha Theta (website here) is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society with over 99,000 student members in more than 2,000 schools. We are an active organization dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong mathematical scholarship, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics. Members of Mu Alpha Theta are eligible for awards and scholarship opportunities and receive an honor cord at graduation.

Requirements:

Eligibility:

  • Enrolled in grade 9-12.

  • Maintaining a 3.0 or greater math GPA.

Support:

  • Attend every Clear Lake Math National Honor Society Meeting.

  • Pay Clear Lake Math Club dues (currently $10/year).

  • Pay Mu Alpha Theta dues ($25 for new members, and $15 for returning).

  • Members are strongly encouraged to participate in at least one off-campus math competition per year (such as UH, Texas A&M, or any UIL practice tournament).

  • Members are strongly encouraged to participate in at least two math events per semester (including any invited speaker, any contest round of Math League, Mandelbrot, Log1, Rocket City, USAMTS, ARML, Pomona-UWisc Talent Search, and many others, as well as any UIL event).

Service:

  • Perform four hours of service each semester.

  • At least 2 of these hours have to be sponsored (the time you spend at meetings counts as sponsored hours), and the other two may be unsponsored. Typically, all of your hours can be obtained from simply attending meetings and competitions.
