Memphis Police Department

The Memphis Police Department consists of a full time Chief of Police, several part-time police officers, a school liaison officer and a secretary.

We pride ourselves on being a full service police department. Some duties of the department include responding to police calls, patrol, traffic control, enforcing state laws, enforcing city ordinances, property inspections, gun permit registrations, sex offender verification and school security. Our goal is to provide a professional, safe and friendly environment to all residents, businesses and visitors.

MISSION STATEMENT

Public protection and service is the recognized duty and charge of the Memphis Police Department.  The department shall provide a safe, welcome and orderly community environment for Memphis residents, business people and visitors while respecting the rights and dignity of all.  We will provide an ethical “people oriented” work environment where our members may enjoy their jobs, utilize their talents, respect one another, and grow as individuals.

FOCUS

To guide our performance, the department shall focus on the following goals:

∙    Strengthen the department as an organization dedicated to serving the people of Memphis with a solid core of basic services.

∙    Integrate the community and the department to provide the best services possible to the residents.

∙    Provide a better system to allocate, manage and control by providing up-to-date information and equipment.

∙    Continue to introduce technology into the workplace aimed towards reducing costs while promoting efficiency and job enrichment.

 A total commitment to excellence in management in an effort to provide an environment of cooperation and support for both the agency and the community.
